Hamilton By Design provides 3D laser scanning, mechanical engineering, reverse engineering and CAD drafting for industrial projects across Gosford and the Central Coast NSW. Based in Wyong, we help manufacturers, warehouse operators, maintenance teams and project engineers document existing conditions and plan practical changes to their facilities and equipment.

Whether you need to fit a new machine into an established factory, reproduce a component with no drawings, or prepare a plant upgrade, we can connect site measurement with the engineering information needed for the next stage of work.

From site scan to engineering deliverables

Existing drawings do not always show the plant as it stands today. Machinery moves, services are rerouted and equipment is modified over time. A 3D laser scan captures visible site geometry as a point cloud, giving the project team a measurable record of the area surveyed.

We can then develop the parts of that record needed for the job, such as:

  • Registered point clouds for review and measurement
  • Factory and warehouse layouts
  • 3D CAD models of equipment and interfaces
  • Plans, sections and general arrangement drawings
  • Mechanical design and fabrication drawings
  • As-built records for future work

The required accuracy and level of detail depend on how the information will be used. A broad layout study and a critical fabrication interface need different capture and checking plans. Scanning also records visible geometry; hidden features, material condition and critical fits may require further inspection or measurement. Factory Engineering

Services across the Central Coast

Factory scanning and plant upgrades

For existing production facilities, scanning can help establish machinery positions, overhead services, access routes and the space available for new equipment. The resulting data can support layout studies, conveyor changes, installation planning and mechanical design.

Reverse engineering and replacement components

When an original drawing or CAD model is missing, reverse engineering can help recover the information needed to repair, modify or reproduce a component. Depending on the part, we may combine scanning with direct measurement and an assessment of its function, wear, fits and manufacturing requirements.

A reliable model of existing conditions can also support equipment positioning, maintenance access, guarding, conveyor interfaces and fabrication documentation.

How we approach a project

1. Define the decision. We establish what needs to be designed, checked, repaired or documented. This determines the scan area, access requirements and important dimensions.

2. Capture existing conditions. We scan the relevant visible surfaces and identify features that need closer inspection or direct measurement.

3. Prepare usable information. Depending on the agreed scope, we register the point cloud and produce layouts, CAD models, drawings or other engineering deliverables.

4. Support the next stage. The information can be used for design reviews, supplier discussions, fabrication planning, installation or future plant modifications.

Frequently asked questions

Can you scan an operating factory or warehouse?

Often, yes. We plan the work around site access, moving equipment, production activity and safety requirements. Some areas may need a shutdown or a separate access window.

Will a 3D scan give us fabrication drawings?

A scan creates a record of visible geometry. Fabrication drawings require a defined design and drafting scope, including checks of the interfaces and dimensions that matter to the finished item.

Can you work from an old or damaged part?

Often, but the approach depends on the part’s condition and function. Worn surfaces may not represent the original design, so critical fits and intended geometry need to be assessed.

Which areas do you service?

Hamilton By Design supports projects throughout Gosford and the Central Coast, including Somersby, Berkeley Vale, Tuggerah, Lisarow, West Gosford, North Wyong, Warnervale, Charmhaven, North Gosford, Wyoming, Ourimbah and Fountaindale.

Discuss your Central Coast project

If you are planning a factory modification, equipment replacement, warehouse change or as-built survey, contact Hamilton By Design with the site location, the problem you need to solve and the deliverables you need. We can then discuss a suitable scanning and engineering scope.
